In a recent court filing, BP asked a federal judge to sanction Halliburton for allegedly destroying evidence of shoddy cement work done on the Macondo well that blew out on April 20, 2010. With trial expected to begin in late February, BP is looking to push the blame for Deepwater Horizon explosion and subsequent oil spill onto the other Defendants, like Transocean, Cameron and Halliburton.
BP alleges that Halliburton “intentionally” destroyed slurry test results in order to prevent their use in the upcoming trial. BP also referred to other evidence of cement performance that is, according to Halliburton, “gone”, as they urged U.S. District Judge Carl Barbier to punish the company and find that its slurry design was inherently unstable.
