On the morning of Friday, December 9, a 130-foot-long cylinder weighing approximately 950,000 pounds rolled off of a barge and into the water roughly 500 yards from shore. The cylinder en route to BP’s Cherry Point refinery in Cherry Point, Washington for use in making “clean” diesel fuel. The maritime accident, which left the cylinder resting on its end in approximately 120 feet of water, seriously injured at least one worker. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
