Rescuers temporarily suspended their search today for survivors of the MV Rabaul Queen blaming strong winds that were hampering aerial rescue efforts. According to the National Maritime Safety Authority (NMSA) of Papua New Guinea, the ferry sank suddenly on the morning of February 2nd after encountering rough seas on its route from Kimbe in the province of West New Britain to Lae. Of the 372 passengers and crew who were reportedly onboard the ferry when it capsized, 246 were successfully rescued shortly afterward. Since the tragic accident, rescuers have recovered 5 bodies while another 121 remain missing.
